Elated Sob Story, is the musical brainchild of Star Dell'Era. This is a lo-fi musical group which consists of Star; vocals, guitar, Clara; drums, and Jeremy; bass guitar. Lately the group has been busy. Not only has this band been recording their music for CD, but they performed together in Rancho Santa Margarita on Saturday April 11, 2009. The venue, a chill coffee shop in the heart of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA set the stage for this music-filled night. Comfy stuffed chairs, tables, and wood chairs were all arranged to face the stage area at the front of the venue.
Behind the band the green vase wall lights glowed emerald green. After setting up the equipment, the Elated Sob Story was ready to jam. They warmed up with a rendition on Kelly Clarkson's "Since you've been Gone" which was a funny tribute, but put a smile on my face. "Sunny Surprise", their first song of the night, was not only a perfect opener, but was also a glimpse of their basic style. The vocals mellow but not moaning, give words and meaning to the sounds. The snare, strong, keeps the beat and rhythm. Lastly, the bass, supportive, gives groove to the sound. Although Star writes her songs and they are original, she is definitely influenced by other artists including Nirvana, and their mellow grunge sound. Next on their play list, came "Dance Song", which was announced as literal, "So please, feel free" says Star with great encouragement. Not only is the music of Elated Sob Story charming and pleasant, but the banter of the band mingling with the crowd is entertaining in itself.
Although a fun and great performance, sadly, Saturday April 11, 2009 was the final performance of this group as a whole. Jeremy the bassist must leave the band due to geographic re-location. In other words, Jeremy is moving to another state. Sad as it is, this does allow for a new chapter of the ever developing Elated Sob Story. The show must go on, so, on Thursday May 28, at 8pm. Elated Sob Story will be performing at the Jumpin Chupacabra Festival with other musical performers and bands. Elated Sob Story will be Star on guitar, with accompaniment from her drummer Clara, which although sans Jeremy, should still be a great show. Please, come support the artistic musical efforts of Star, and all the other performers at the Juice'N Java at 26676 Portola parkway in Rancho Santa Margarita,CA.
By the way, Elated Sob Story invites Bass players to contact them if interested in adding some funk and soul (once provided by Jeremy) to this lo-fi band from Orange County, CA. Star is always open to any musical collaborations, so go ahead and get in touch.
