My mom has been one of the key influences in my life. In anything that I have chosen to do, be it getting my Cosmetology License, or changing professions and going to college, my mom has always been supportive. When I was a stylist at a salon that was going to a hair show in London, my mom told me to take the opportunity as it was priceless. "No mom" I argued, "its $2,000 dollars." But she maintained her theory that when something comes to break up hum-drum routine, "take it" is her advice.
Not only does she give encouragement to live life and experience to its fullest, she lives this mantra. My mom went to a conference in Italy. Although the conference was but a week, my mom and three of her colleagues planned a five week European adventure.
I took her advice and had an amazing experience in London. That trip actually inspired me to take college classes and work towards a degree.
At the beginning of the year, I fractured my fibula while skateboarding. Since I am trying to be active and help rehabilitate my ankle, I am leery to skate again. My mom has been surfing for about a year and has invited me to surf with her. At sixty-one, my mom is truly my hero, and when I grow up, I hope to be like her in all her vibrancy and love of life.
