People like to look good and want their hair to be managable. When looking in the mirror, we as vain humans like to look at self and like what is seen. To do this, many will "dye" their own hair and let siblings cut their locks. Please, spend a little bit of money and feel great when you get a great shape and/or color created just for you.
I am not a beautitian. I do not do beauty, I simply do good hair. I want people to feel good, and a nice cut and color is a great start. Being a licensed cosmetologist, I hear ear cringing references as bad as being called any off colored adjective.
The old school terminologies sound ridiculous even as a softened jargon tool to communicate with non-cosmetologists. A licensed cosmetologist has been educated in all things hair, skin, make-up, nails and the such. Facials, maniures, and hair are part of the cosmetologists' training. So yes, maybe being a "beautitian" seemed logical at one time, but now the idea of beauty is so diverse that every individual has their own beauty. I just do good hair for the individual.
Terminologies that are used for processes are always interesting. "Frosting" hair is curious to me. I frost a cake or mini cupcakes, but I do not frost hair. I can color hair, and I can do highlights. People talk about weaves. A weave is not a color, but actually refers to hair extentions. It can get confusing but "weaving" is the actual process of getting pieces of hair to look like highlights. I do weave hair to create highlights, I relax hair to loosen the curl for easier straightening, but frosting is not anything i've yet done to hair.
I know it seems silly, but in obtaining the knowledge that my cosmetology license required was difficult and required tenacity and dedication. I am confident in my abilities and I appreciate the ability I've developed to do great shapes and colors. I look forward to doing more hair in Hillcrest and keeping the GLBT community beauty-full.
