Addison Sarah Rice

Addison Sarah Rice is the niece who I never met. She was born to good caring parents who wanted nothing but to take care of a daughter...The story is a sad one. After failed pregnancy attempts, finally a baby did stay safely. Addison was going to be alright and my sister shared her exciting news. As Addison grew in her mother's belly, mommy explained to son Calvin about how there was going to be a sister coming to live with them. Everyone was excited and awaited the arrival of Addison Sarah Rice.

At 38 and 1/2 weeks there was a troubling occurrence. The baby was in distress, something was wrong. At 38 and 1/2 weeks anxious mom and dad rushed to the hospital. Addison was born under distress and went straight into the Intensive Care Unit upon arrival to this earth. What a disheartening situation to be so close, but one fluke occurrence of the umbilical cord being knock changed everything.
Luckily my mom had already planned to go out to Georgia for the first month of Addison's life. However, she had to expedite her trip and also took her daughter/my sister Sarah, whom Addison was named after.

Every text from my mom was more disheartening than the previous. Addison was taken off of life support after 24 hours. Her lungs immediately filled with fluid and she was slowly leaving this life. Rebecca and her husband visited Addison in a hospice and mourned. They were given a blessing when a man offered his photography services so they could have a family portrait that would include Addison.

I received a call 7 days after Addison's birth to hear of her passing. Born on a Wednesday, and gone by the next Wednesday... Troubling and so sad was her birth and death, but I was glad that she would suffer no longer. This situation did bring the living members of my family together for a short time as we supported and contacted each other. There is good in bad and although sometimes it needs to be sought out, it will be found.
